Chatter for the week ending June 4, 2010

Chatter is a weekly collection of links to articles that Medallia employees found relevant, interesting, or just plain fun.

We're fascinated with the growth of the internet and by what Google VP of Search Marissa Mayer said, "the average person uploaded 15 times more data in 2009 than they did just three years ago." But even more interesting was HP CEO Mark Hurd's comment: "more data will be created in the next four years than in the history of the planet." Staggering!

Speaking of Google: Google is phasing out the internal use of Microsoft’s ubiquitous Windows operating system because of security concerns.

The disruptive nature of the web on any given industry is profound. This week, Tim O'Reilly referenced an impressive suggestion by Advertising Age that "The internet is killing car culture." With the percentage of "16-19 year olds with driver's licenses in sharp decline!"

Ever wondered what happens to a YouTube video after 1,000 uploads? Neither did we. Until this week.

In a case reminiscent to the McDonald's coffee lawsuit, Google is being sued by a pedestrian who was hit by a car after following Google Maps walking directions. (Regardless of the validity of the claim, she appears not to have been seriously injured.)

We've loved Kathy Sierra since way back, and we continue to love her in this talk about sustaining passionate and loyal customers.
